Summary:
The Head Start/Early Head Start Mentor/Coach is responsible for providing on-going coaching for ECE staff.
Supporting effective teaching strategies in the classroom that lead to positive outcome for children within the context of a collaborative relationship with the parent/caregiver and child.

Essential Functions:
1.
Develops and maintains positive, supportive relationships with staff for the purpose of supporting staff growth through the practice based coaching model.
2.
Develops and maintains schedules for classroom visits and observation for the purpose of determining training needs.
3.
Utilizes Practice Based Coaching model for the purpose of assessing needs, engaging in focused observations, and providing reflection and feedback to set goals and develop action plans.
4.
Utilizes a classroom observation tool to assess the interactions and relationship between the staff and the children.
5.
Provides constructive feedback and support for the purpose of increasing staff confidence and competence.
This may include modeling, co-teaching, observing, providing reading materials or other resources as needed.
6.
Provides follow up support to staff following any form of training for the purpose of increasing implementation of information and transfer of skill into practice.
7.
Gathers and records information about staffs' implementation of practices described in goals/action plans for the purpose of summarizing and displaying data.
8.
Completes monthly monitoring reports or coaching logs for assigned visits and submits them according to timelines for the purpose of meeting program requirement for tracking and monitoring.
9.
Participates in initial and on-going professional development for the purpose of providing effective mentor/coach activities as well as provide expertise on theory and practices that support child development.
10.
Attend meetings, training, and appropriate professional development activities.
11.
Identifies & assures remediation of any federal, state, local non-compliances or risk management health & safety concerns found in Ongoing Monitoring and self-assessment and incorporates recommendations into planning for the improvement of the program.

Qualifications:
Education:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Early Education or related field with additional infant/toddler training.
Experience:
1.
Two years' experience in an infant/toddler setting.
2.
Experience in meeting the needs of all children including at risk, special needs, and culturally diverse populations.
3.
Experience working with adult learners.
4.
Experience demonstrating excellent written and verbal communication skills, intermediate to advanced computer skills, internet, and e-mail.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must have the capability to engage in the physical activities' incidental to the job, including without limitation, the capability to:
Regularly stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear.
Frequently required to walk; sit and taste or smell.
Lift and move children.
Lift and move equipment and furniture as necessary to facilitate the execution of classroom activities.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus including ability to supervise and monitor children both by sight and sound always.
Remain alert during naptime supervision.
Respond to children in the case of an emergency to ensure safety, such as the capability to react quickly and chase after a child if he or she runs toward danger or tries to leave the classroom.
Most days, employee will be working a portion of the day outside in temperatures ranging from 15 degrees Fahrenheit (with wind chill) up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
Attend to the needs of children with disabilities, including physically challenged children.
